AlphaGo - Skynet 1 Step Closer

G’day,

Rather melodramatic title I guess, at least to Terminator fans, but - A Google created piece of software/supecomputer has taken down the world’s best “Go” player in a best of 5 match.

AlphaGo beat Lee So-dol in the first 3 games, though So-dol won the fourth, with the final game yet to be played.

Apparently “Go” is a very complex Asian game with allegedly more possibilities than there are atoms in the universe, and is considered the Holy Grail when it comes to creating an AI that can handle itself when playing real humans.

Knowing that our software is one step closer to bettering us does tend to make one think of sci-fi apocalyptic threats… But hopefully in reality will simply mean… really smart robots that can not only clean up after us, but converse about the deeper meaning of life, too…

Maybe Asimov should have written a 4th Law of Robotics:

  1. A robot may not win a game against a human under any circumstances.

s Refer C3PO/R2D23 vs Chewie at Chess…

Also… evidence that we struck first…

Go Gadget Go!

Shades of Terminator/s, Battlestar Galactica and have I missed any?

Matrix, I Robot, and quite a few sci fi novels.
