I used to use aliases a lot on the Mac but somewhere along the line Apple broke them terribly and most alias files are now huge compared to what they link to. Most folder aliases are 1MB minimum and plain old files are not far behind.
Can anyone running 10.13 and using APFS verify whether that’s been fixed or not?
