The Wall Street Journal is reporting Apple will soon be offering its own scripted TV shows. The paywalled article claims that both “veteran producers” and “experienced marketing executives” will be looking to create and promote these shows, but with the likes of Netflix and HBO already producing great in-house content, will it be enough?
Along a similar vein, Variety has more information on how Apple’s Carpool Karaoke will work. Featuring a different host every episode, the series will be more like an interview series than strictly karaoke, with non-musical stars also appearing on the show as well as non-traditional pairings of artists.
After completing a second round of testing with the bugs ironed out of their testing suite, Consumer Reports now recommends the new MacBook Pros with (and without) Touch Bar. Consumer Reports claims Apple has fixed the bugs in the latest beta of macOS, with all laptops posting impressive battery life numbers of over 15 hours.
Over at Macworld, Kirk McElhearn says it’s time for Apple to give up its pursuit of thinness for a bigger battery. If Apple sacrificed a little of its desire to make laptops as thin and light as possible, then we’d be able to have the all-day battery life enjoyed by iPads. Who are the people asking for these super thin and super light laptops, anyway?
The original Astropad iPad app was designed to let you interact with Mac apps using your iPad. Now, the newly-released AstroPad Studio wants to bring even more customisability to the process, enabling custom two-handed gestures that work with the Apple Pencil. AstroPad Studio is free for a 7-day trial period, but otherwise you’ll need to subscribe, billed either monthly or annually.
A Mac Pro concept design doesn’t take into account the practicalities of PCIe lanes or processor architectures, but hey, it looks pretty good. If Apple ever made a return to standard components, then I’d want them to do it in a similar fashion, and they’d even be able to keep their fantastically futuristic cooling tower/trash can-like design.
A former Apple engineer has answered a question on Quora about working on the iPhone project. Terry Lambert wrote about 6% of the Mac OS X kernel, which is now the same kernel that runs on iOS devices, but his post focuses on aspects of the famed Apple secrecy, even within its own walls.
