Mac Mini 2,1 on HDTV?

G’day,

I have been using my Mac Mini 2,1 1.83GHz C2D as my HTPC, connected from its DVI video out port to my Samsung 720p TV via a HDMI adapter. Considering the limitations of the tv (ie not full HD), I’ve been very happy with this outcome.

Last week I purchased a full HD JVC 42" tv. Whilst it provides a nice enough image when displaying a HD tv channel, or content via my DVD player (via HDMI), the Mac Mini’s image is crap. I’ve tried both using DVI->VGA, and also the DVI->HDMI plug I was using previously, but both give a fairly pixelated image.

As a test, I played an mkv file first on the Mini, then via the tv’s USB port. The mini was very washed out/defused, yet the TV’s own onboard video software handled it well.

Is there some trick here to get a good image… Or am I going to have to find a new HTPC?

Hope that makes sense…

Cheers
