Bloomberg is reporting Apple will be taking a leaf out of Amazon’s playbook and revamping its Apple Store app in order to provide recommendations based on a user’s purchase history. The Apple Store app update will also unify the iPad and iPhone versions, with both set to feature some kind of “For You” recommendations tab.
With development of Swift 3.0 wrapping up, Apple has taken a look back at development so far and laid out the path to Swift 4. Ars Technica summarises the lengthy post to the Swift developer mailing list as mostly focusing on the positives and negatives of open-source development. The post also outlines a number of goals for the Swift 4.0 release, expected to arrive around this time next year.
Kanye West just wants everyone to be friends. The artist said on Twitter over the weekend that the beef between Apple CEO Tim Cook and fellow artist Jay Z (and their respective streaming platforms Apple Music and Tidal) to end, later following up with a tweet that said Apple should just “give Jay a check”, presumably for the acquisition of Tidal.
According to DigiTimes, the second-generation version of the Apple Watch will feature one glass solution technology, eliminating a second layer of glass used in the current design and potentially saving some space and weight. Yields of the OGS tech have been low so far, but it’s unknown whether this will affect shipping volumes just yet.
People who used the latest version of the Pangu jailbreak tool have reported unauthorised access to their credit, debit, PayPal, and social media accounts, but for now, the culprit remains unknown. 9to5Mac originally speculated that it could have been the fault of a compromised distributor of the jailbreak tool for iOS 9.3.3, but Pangu’s statement claims they’re as much in the dark as we are.
Over at Macworld, Dan Moren discusses Apple’s approach to security, which now comes in a few different flavours but is built on the same “something you know, something you have, and something you are” — corresponding to passwords and passcodes, a device you have on you, and biometric security, respectively.
Horace Deidu posts about the most popular product of all time, in which he says the iPhone has out-sold such greats as the VW Beetle, the Harry Potter books, and even the Rubiks Cube. No word on whether the iPhone has out-sold hotcakes.
You look at Apple’s numbers every second and are awed by how a company can even generate that much revenue or sell that many iPhones. It’s truly insane.
Apple opened its first Apple Store in Brooklyn over the weekend, and the single-room, brick-accented building looks pretty great.
