The launch of the new iPhone on Friday saw disappointment as many Apple Stores did not have stock of the iPhone 7 Plus in any colour, or any iPhone 7 in Jet Black. Students in Sydney shopping at Apple George Street instead left with two iPhone 7 models and $100 gift cards for their trouble.
Launch day hardware issues are nothing to laugh about, but it’s been discovered that some iPhone 7 devices make a hissing sound when under heavy load. It’s suspected that the new A10 Fusion chip is to blame, given that the noise seems to come from the processor’s general area, but so far, there’s no real explanation. We’ll see if this turns out to be a big deal over the next week or so.
With a new home button on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iMore notes that in order to use the button-less home button while wearing gloves, you’ll need them to be the capacitive kind that you’d need to operate the screen anyway. An easy way to test the theory is if you’ve got a capacitive and non-capacitive stylus.
A teardown of the Apple Watch Series 2 gives us a peek inside at the redesigned components inside the updated Apple Watch. There’s a slightly larger Taptic Engine compared to the previous model, and the new speaker is designed to fill with water, then pump excess water out once you’ve finished with your swim.
I don’t know about you, but I somewhat neglected the account for the Apple Watch during the switch to a new iPhone. Apple’s official instructions on switching your Apple Watch to a new iPhone say you should unpair the Apple Watch for it to back up to your old iPhone, transfer your backup to your new iPhone, and then pair and restore your Apple Watch from backup.
There’s a cool new feature on the Apple Watch Series 2 that lets you discreetly check the time by turning the Digital Crown to wake the screen.
One of the new features in iOS 10 is the ability to print to PDFs, at least with emails. Gabe from Macdrifer says it’s apparently been available since iOS 9, but it’s still pretty cool if you want to use the PDF with other apps.
If nothing else, iOS 10 turns your iPhone into a magnifying glass by using the iPhone camera to give you a closer look at stuff. You can even freeze the camera if you’re trying to see something tiny.
