A dummy model of this year’s iPhone has surfaced, and it’s the first could-be-real hardware prototype that we’ve seen thus far. It’s hard to tell whether this is real or not — the chrome/raw aluminium and lack of a LED flash on the rear suggests it’s a fake, but even those points are countered by a follow up post saying that the aluminium will eventually be a Space Black, and according to schematics, the LED flash will be positioned between the vertically-aligned dual camera lenses.
Apple Music’s latest release is Up Next, a mini-documentary series focusing on up and coming artists. The first episode will feature 6LACK, telling us about the singer/rapper’s Atlanta start and also featuring an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe.
Business Insider obtained a document which details Apple’s plans to train experts in self-driving car technology. The “Development Platform Specific Training” document describes the steps an expert must go through in order to work on the “Apple Automated System”, likely an internal name for Apple’s self-driving cars, ahead of Apple releasing its test cars onto public roads in the near future.
Apple’s Danish data centre will generate heat that will be used to heat local homes. Of course, the Jutland data centre will also be powered by 100% renewable energy, partly by recycling waste products from nearby farms, which Apple will then turn into fertiliser so it can give back to the farms that provided it with some power. It’s a pretty smart way of being environmentally friendly.
The latest episode of John Gruber’s The Talk Show podcast interviews Lisa Jackson, Apple VP of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. The pair discuss Apple’s environmental efforts in light of Earth Day, and the interview brings Gruber’s total Apple VP podcast count to four.
Speaking of podcasts, Overcast’s latest update lets you send individual podcasts to your Apple Watch for listening when you don’t have your iPhone around. Copying podcasts to the Apple Watch is still a slow process, but that’s more a Bluetooth limitation than it is anything else. Other than the occasional oddity, things seem to work pretty well.
The Mac Observer says the dismantling of the iconic Fifth Avenue glass cube is only a temporary measure while renovations take place, but as far as I can tell, there’s nothing to say Apple will put it back. It makes sense to remove the cube to allow construction to happen in the space underneath, just as it makes sense for Apple to put it back due to its legendary status, but there’s nothing to say that they will.

IMore tells us that the iPhone is superior than the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S8, if you’re looking at specific benchmarks that show the per-core performance of Apple’s silicon over Samsung’s. Why that matters is that Apple’s in-house SoC design allows for more integration, which leads to tighter efficiency and better performance.
