Tuesday Morning News

16889-13986-iPhone-7-(1)-lWhat’s purported to be the rear shell of the next iPhone has been leaked again to Chinese social media site Weibo. This time around the rear shell shows off relocated antenna bands and an additional cutout near the iPhone rear camera microphone hole, which prompted speculation about what it could be for. One of the holes is for the rear-facing microphone, but what about the other, and why are they different sizes?

It must be Apple update Tuesday, because Apple has released updates across all of their platforms. For starters, iOS 9.3.2 says it fixes bugs and improves the security of your iPhone in the release notes, as well as resolving audio quality issues with Bluetooth accessories on the iPhone SE and a few other miscellaneous bits and pieces.

Bug fixes and performance improvements are also on the menu for OS X El Capitan 10.11.5, with perhaps a side of security updates as noted by MacRumors.

You’ll never guess what we’re having for dessert, because watchOS 2.2.1 and tvOS 9.2.1 also have more bug fixes and performance improvements for the Apple Watch and Apple TV, respectively.

At least one of those bug fixes in this morning’s iOS update fixes Game Center, which Touch Arcade says was broken for almost a year before someone at Apple decided to give it some love. In any case, game leaderboards in Game Centre are working again, for the first time in nine months.

The version numbers on iTunes also get a minor bump, and Apple says iTunes 12.4 has minor design tweaks that are designed to make it easier to use. But the new iTunes is nearly identical to the old, with perhaps a very minor change of adding a menu and back-forward navigations in the top bar, a move that The Verge says does nothing to solve the iTunes usability issue in the first place.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is said to be meeting with the Indian PM this week, with their pair set to discuss Apple’s plans in the country, including the possibility of a manufacturing plant based in India.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has purchased more than a billion dollars worth of Apple stock, with over 9.8 million shares changing hands earlier this year. Despite pouring a billion dollars into the company, 9to5Mac notes this makes Berkshire Hathaway the 56th largest Apple shareholder.

The YouTube iOS app now supports Google Cardboard, if viewing videos in a semi-VR experience is something you’ve wanted to play around with.

Neil Cybart’s post on the iPhone warning signs says that iPhone growth is slowing due to a number of factors, and there’s only a few things Apple can do about it.

Intriguing. Laser? Light detector? Additional lens? Double flash?

Projector.

Laser for autofocus was my thought, like the LG G3 - that was definitely a fast focusing phone camera!

Nah, you’re all wrong. The extra hole is for hard-resetting the device using a SIM card ejector tool.

No way - that would be such a design flaw and asking for the camera lens to be scratched by safety pins.
