One of Apple’s latest mini-sites is the one they put together showcasing the iPad Pro experience. Apple’s examples of the iPad Pro experience include the Microsoft Office suite as recommended apps, along with other third-party apps and Apple’s own first-party accessories that go together to complete the experience.
The US Department of Justice has announced plans it will be dropping the case against Apple. The US DoJ apparently no longer requires Apple’s assistance in unlocking the iPhone belonging to the San Bernardino shooter, with the FBI able to access the data after enlisting the help of Israeli mobile forensics company Cellebrite. Apple’s response says they think the case should never have been brought in the first place, and that the company will continue to stand for civil liberties.
But that’s not quite the end of the story. Now, there are even more questions: how did Cellebrite gain access to the data on the locked iPhone, and could their access method be used for other iOS devices? Whatever their method, we may never know. Ars Technica reports that while the US Government does have something called the Vulnerabilities Equities Process, it’s possible Apple will never know the exact method used to extract data from a locked iPhone, although there are only a handful of viable possibilities.
As part of the next-generation Apple Stores, the Apple Store in Memphis has a 37-foot, 11.28m display that “ties everything together”, according to AppleInsider, who also say the entire setup is worth about $1.5 million. New wooden accessory displays aside, it looks like a pretty standard Apple Store.
MacStories has tested Apple’s 29W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to Lightning cable and found that it does, indeed, charge the iPad Pro faster than the included 12W power adapter.

Now this is pretty cool — Apple’s latest patent shows off stackable Smart Connector Plugs and what might turn out to be a MagSafe Lightning cable, ever since the demise of the MagSafe port on the 12-inch MacBook.
Ben Brooks’ take on the smaller iPad Pro is that it’s a great companion device if you’re not planning on using the iPad as your primary computing device. But if you are, he can’t think of a reason where you’d prefer the smaller screen, lesser RAM, and underclocked CPU compared to its larger sibling.
While the iPhone SE may be most of the iPhone 6s hardware in the iPhone 5s form factor, it’s missing 3D Touch. AppleInsider’s explanation of why says the feature might not be needed on a smaller display, especially where it may add additional bulk to the display assembly.
Macworld says the new Night Shift feature probably won’t help you sleep better, but it might help.
