Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine has been interviewed by Billboard. In his interview, Iovine tells us about how he’s gotten to where he is now, first by starting Beats, bringing on Trent Reznor (who was involved with the Apple Music redesign), and eventually by being bought out by Apple. He also has nice words to say about Apple’s Eddy Cue, and how working with Apple to create what’s next — he says they’re no longer in the record business, but in the popular culture business.
The plot thickens with regards to the removal of Dash from the App Store. A blog post published by the developer of Dash says admits he paid for and gave hardware to a relative who then manipulated reviews for the apps on that developer account, but was completely unaware his own developer account and that of his relative’s were linked, nor was he notified of any wrongdoing before his account was terminated.
Not only that, but the developer of Dash also recorded a conversation between himself and Apple that shows Apple was willing to do a lot to reinstate his account. In an update to his original post on the issue, Gruber says he did himself no favours by recording and publishing the call, but from where I’m sitting, all Apple are guilty of is not telling Dash’s developer about the linked accounts.
The official iOS 10 adoption number from Apple now sits at 54%, as measured by the App Store on October 7th. The remainder of active iOS devices are split between iOS 9 (38%) and earlier (8%), which is about inline with previous adoption rates of a new version of iOS.
For some reason, people are still buying Macs even though they haven’t been updated for over a year. Apple are quickly gaining a reputation for selling old hardware at the same prices as they originally did, but for some strange reason, people are still buying them. It’s absolute madness.
The fourth beta of macOS 10.12.1 has been released to developers and members of Apple’s public beta testing program. AppleInsider says new Macs are coming, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
A recent Apple patent shows off an bezel-less iPhone design. The patent describes how an ambient light sensor could be embedded in the display, or at least outside it in a way that would be “visually indistinguishable”.
A review of Sennheiser’s PXC 550 — a Bluetooth-enabled set of noise-cancelling headphones — by MacRumors say they give Bose’s QC35s a run for their money. And with features like touch-sensitive areas on the headphones, you can kinda see why.
Dropbox’s latest iOS app has a few cool tricks up its sleeve, including the ability to sign PDFs from within the Dropbox app, sharing Dropbox files in iMessage, and being able to refresh files after they’ve been updated by someone else.
In other app news, there’s also a massive update out for OmniGraffle, which is so massive that Omni released a 300-page iBook in order to give you a walkthrough of all the new features. Plus, this is the first version of OmniGraffle that gives you a 14-day trial, after which you can purchase the Standard or Pro versions as in-app purchases.
