Macbook SMC problem?

I’m trying to fix a Macbook that seem to have some weird screen issue.

I think it’s some weird SMC or PRAM issue. When turned on the screen does not light up. The laptop is definitely starting ok, hard drive going nuts, it responds to pressing the power button to put it in sleep mode etc.

I’ve reset the SMC and PRAM multiple times, disconnected the battery etc, to no avail.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

probably a hardware fault then if the SMC reset hasn’t helped.

Some kind of weird hibernation/sleep problem.

I could tell the machine was starting up because the hard drive was active, so I googled to find the keyboard shortcut for a controlled shutdown, once I did that it happily boots up again, screen working.

I don’t know why the SMC reset didn’t help.
