Make a Live Stream your Screensaver

To the tech-savvy gurus here, this is probably old hat, but I thought it was still cool enough to share in case others weren’t aware of it.

With the successful launch of Starman from the SpaceX Heavy, I decided I’d really like to have the livestream as my screensaver. I ran about the internet, getting sweaty and puffed, and eventually figured a way to do it.

Step 1.
Download and install WebViewScreensaver here: Releases · liquidx/webviewscreensaver · GitHub

Step 2.
Find a livestream that you want to use and get the embed code. Copy the URL. For reference, the embed code for the Starman livestream is “YouTube

Step 3.
Add “?v=3&wmode=direct&autoplay=true” to the end of the URL.

Step 4.
Open up System Preferences > Desktop and Screen Saver and click on the WebVeiwScreensaver choice in the sidebar. Then click on the “Screensaver options”.

Step 5.
Add the URL to “Fetch URLS remotely” and replace the default Google URL in the “Add URL’s” box with your URL.

Step 6.

Profit.

Cool idea and love the reason for it! Musk is hopefully just the right amount of crazy.

I wonder if the rumour that David Bowie’s ashes are in Starman are true?

That’d make it go from awesomely cool to just plain epic.
