Slight delay getting back to this… I got it sorted under AppleCare. They did a repair exemption on it and covered it in full! What champions!
I’d 100% recommend anyone get AppleCare!

These 2012 rMBP Graphics issues were covered under a Repair Extension Program (REP, or Quality Program) regardless of the warranty status or whether the machine had AppleCare. The program was active for 4 years from the original date of purchase or until December 31st, 2016, whichever is longer.
