The Apple and FBI iPhone encryption debate has caught the attention of comedian John Oliver, who discussed the issue on an episode of Last Week Tonight. Oliver covered the topic without lionizing Apple, instead focusing on the encryption debate and how the FBI is using the All Writs Act to get their own way. It’s a light-hearted look at a serious issue.
With all the rumours saying there’s a possibility of a dual-lens camera system in the next iPhone, we haven’t seen any part leaks suggesting that may be the case… until now. A dual-lens camera system has been outed by the supply chain, with similar camera modules also spotted on Weibo, the Chinese social media site.
It’s extremely likely Apple will redesign the antenna bands on the next iPhone, along with making the device thinner and ending our long national nightmare of a protruding camera lens. I remain unconvinced curved antenna bands on the top and rear of the device are the right design — there’s got to be a better solution out there, just so long as we’re not putting the antennas themselves on the outside of the device.
A new Charlie Rose interview with Apple’s Jony Ive has been broadcast, and in the interview, the pair discuss Apple’s culture and the role design plays in Apple’s identity, along with other topics such as Ive’s relationship with Steve Jobs.
Apple SVP Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller has addressed the issue of spammy apps taking up valuable space on the App Store, saying on Twitter the issue shouldn’t happen and they would be looking into it. There’s nothing preventing developers from submitting clone app to the App Store, but surely there’s something Apple can do about them not making it into top charts and other curated areas.
It looks as though there will be one more beta of iOS 9.3, with beta 7 released to developers and public beta testers. Going off this beta release means there’s a good chance we’ll see a public release next week, with the update perhaps even getting some on-stage time.
